Kelly Osbourne just realeased a new album that's defying those who think she's just riding on the coattails of her bat-biting daddy, the heiress to the throne of darkness struggles to find the light. Here, Kelly Osbourne and her family talk to Rufus Wainwright, who knows a thing or two about the weight of the musical torch.

Rufus Wainwright: Kelly, welcome to Teenvogue. Are you excited about your new album, Sleeping in the Nothing [Sanctuary]?
Kelly Osbourne: Oh, it is lovely to be here! Of course I am excited.

RW:Tell us about the recording process.
KO:It's bittersweet because I was kind of depressed right when it came out and didn't really pay much attention to it.

RW:I find that there's always a sort of a postpartum feeling whenever you release something dear to you.
KO:With my first album I sat there and watched the ground fall away beneath my feet, so I really worked hard on this one, and I think it kind of shows who I am. But then, suddenly, having all that pressure, making sure that it's good and that it's not going to fail like my first one ...

RW:Well, I just wanted to say I really love it and appreciate what you're trying to say on it in terms of issues that are relevant to a young woman's experience in America--whether it's date rape or feeling alienated--and I just think it's very brave of you to tackle those subjects, especially compared to the crap that comes out of a lot of people's mouths today in the pop world. [laughs] Was singing about this personal stuff hard?
KO:No. Because when I decided that I wanted to do something that was more pop oriented, I thought about everything that's been released lately, and decided I didn't want to sing about things like "You broke my heart again," or that kind of thing. I thought, There's got to be some important issues in there, and a lot of my beliefs.

RW:Now that you talk about your personal beliefs, let's talk about your personal life. How does your dad like the album?
KO:I think he Likes it more than I do, which is really weird. I was almost embarrassed to play it for him. I thought he'd be like, "God, my daughter's turned into a pussy!" [Wainwright laughs] He ended up really liking it though.

RW:That's sweet. And your mom likes it too?
KO:Yes, she does.

RW:Alright. Let's talk a little about your love life. Are the rumours true about you and David Hasselhoff dating?
KO:What!? Oh my God! I haven't heard about this, oh no! What is meant to have happened?

RW:Well it's not so much rumours, more just my imagination really - any truth to it?
KO:Oh no, no, no. Not a chance, I'm not one of his Baywatch girlies.

RW:So, I guess you don't have a boyfriend.
KO:No, I'm currently single.

RW:Okay. So tell me, your new single is rather funky - are you nervous about how it will be received?
KO:No, not at all, I don't care - I'm just putting it out there. I like it, I don't care what people think, it is a great song and I think people will appreciate it. I'm excited about people hearing it, but I'm not getting nervous about chart positions.

RW:How did the song come about?
KO:Well it was written by Linda Perry who is a really talented writer. It's the first track on my album. I love it and I'm really glad it's coming out as a single. The lyrics are strong and I'm proud to sing them.

(Phone rings)
RW:You can answer if you want to, I can wait.
KO:Hello?
Ozzy Osbourne: The most obnoxious (expletive deleated) ring.
KO:I have to go, good-bye.
OO:Another boyfriend?
RW:I thought you didn't have a boyfriend. Who was that?
KO:I don't have boyfriends. I don't want a boyfriend.
OO:I hope you don't want a (expletive deleated) girlfriend. I'm only joking. I hope.
KO:Dad!
OO:That was a good shot.
KO:As I said, I'm currently single right now. Can we keep going with the interview?
